The primary care team at Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB) has been working with key stakeholders to secure the future of local GP services in Botley and Kennington.

The work started in March when the current Botley Medical Centre and Kennington Health Centre partners gave six months’ notice on their contract. BOB ICB is now pleased to announce that two Oxford-based practices will be taking over GP services at both sites from 1 October 2023.

The practice team at the Manor Surgery in Headington will provide services to patients from the Kennington Health Centre site, while the team at 19 Beaumont Street, Oxford, will provide services to patients jointly from the Botley Medical Centre and 19 Beaumont St sites.

A small number of registered patients living outside the ‘catchment’ areas of the new providers will be registered with other GP practices, which are likely to be closer to home.

Patients do not need to take any action to register with the new providers and patient care will not be interrupted. The NHS will send a formal letter to everyone affected ahead of the changes from 1 October advising them of details of their new practice. There will be an opportunity for people to choose to register with other surgeries at this stage, depending on practice boundaries.

Dr Joe McManners, partner at the Manor Surgery, said: ‘Our friendly and experienced team are looking forward to expanding our services to the residents of Kennington and surrounding areas. As a practice we put patient care at the heart of everything we do, and we will be delighted to welcome all our 'new' patients later in the year."

Dr Jayne Haynes, partner at 19 Beaumont Street, said: “We already have a number of patients from the Botley area registered with us and we are excited to provide services from the Botley site.  By taking on the practice we will be able to develop services for all our patients and ensure care closer to home for many of them."

Dr Abid Irfan, director of primary care at BOB ICB, said: “We are confident these new arrangements will be welcomed by patients, especially as the new providers are local, well-established, successful practices committed to providing the best possible care for the people they serve.”

Patients will have the chance to meet members of the teams from Manor Surgery and 19 Beaumont Street in person at a special event in August to hear about their plans for the future and to ask questions. Further details of the event will be available as they are confirmed.
