A local GP is urging people who are eligible for a spring booster COVID vaccination to book an appointment for a jab when practically possible.

Since March 2022, the booster has been available in Oxfordshire for people aged 75 and over, those aged 12 years and over with a weakened immune system, and residents in older adult care homes.

The NHS has been inviting people when it is their turn to arrange a jab through the national booking service at various local sites, including community pharmacies and the large vaccination centre at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford.

Dr Ed Capo Bianco, Urgent Care Lead at Oxfordshire CCG, said: “The spring booster will give vulnerable people protection against Coronavirus during summer. If you are having a summer holiday in August, getting your spring booster before the end of June will give time for you to gain maximum protection ahead of your trip.

“Getting the jab before the end of June will also mean there will have been enough time between doses ahead of a further autumn dose to extend protection over winter, and against any possible resurgence in infection levels.”

The national booking service can be accessed online at nhs.uk/covidvaccine or by calling 119 free from mobiles and landlines. Lines are open every day from 8am to 8pm, and 119 can provide support in 200 languages.
